For Now.

Ruby always dreamed about food and people who had died.

She was meeting a friend for dinner in some nondescript chain restaurant when the dead woman showed up. She looked the same as when Ruby had lost seen her, though Ruby felt a tickle of confusion even in the dream. Didn't you die? Should you be here? Want to split an appetizer?

Ruby was in the drive-thru of a greasy fast food place when she saw her grandmother go by, her grandmother who had been dead for ten years. Her grandmother was driving a small white SUV even though Ruby couldn't remember the last time her grandmother had driven anything - maybe the late 80s?

Ruby found herself no longer hungry, so she pulled away from the drive-thru and followed her grandmother to a large field on the outskirts of town until she lost sight of her among the clouds of dirt.

That night, Ruby was at the fair. She walked past all of the vendors even though she was pleaded with her dream self to stop, get a funnel cake, get a pronto pup. Ruby walked into the hall of mirrors and all she saw was herself. Alive and well.
