Ben had heard rumors about the gloop factory in the woods, but he didn’t believe them until the smell hit him.
It was like bubblegum mixed with rotten fruit, sticky and sweet.
When he got inside, the workers were all wearing yellow suits and giant rubber gloves, their faces blank as they stirred bubbling vats of gloop.
“What's that stuff?” Ben asked.
One of the workers turned and smiled, but his eyes were too wide, too vacant. “It’s... gloop. Gloop for everything.”
Ben reached for a sample, but before he could touch it, the gloop moved, reaching for his hand.
"Gloop has its own plans," the worker muttered, as more gloop surged toward them.

This one felt very Dahl-esque to me and might be my favorite so far.
These stories make me smile. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAw that makes ME smile! Sometimes it feels silly and pointless doing this but the connection is worth it!
DeleteIt reminds me of "Bartholomew and the Oobleck," as well.

Oooh yes good point!
DeleteAllison, you're right, it has that menacing Dahl quality to it. Oh, I hope the MC gets away in time.
